The Wellington Wolverines baseball team improved to 5-1 with recent victories over Woodward Academy (Ga) and Santaluces. The Wolverines face off tonight (March 10) at 6:30pm against district opponent Forest Hill (4-2) at Wellington’s field.
On Wednesday night (March 8), the team went on the road to Lantana and rallied in the 7th inning, scoring four runs, to stun Santaluces, 5-3. Starting senior pitcher Luke Panakos struck out 10 through five innings and senior Sawyer Losey gained the win, striking out five through two innings. Sophomore pinch hitter Ethan Kramer hit the game-winning, two-run single in the 7th. Senior Angelo Brunelas and junior Connor Dunnam each had two hits.
On Tuesday night (March 7), the Wolverines defeated Woodward, 9-3. Senior pitcher John Campagnuolo picked up the win, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on three hits and four strikeouts. Sophomore third baseman Tyler Retzler had three hits and a run scored, senior first baseman Kyle Black had two hits and one RBI, and Dunnam launched a two-run double. The Wolverines totaled 12 hits.
