Two right-handed pitchers, Summit Christian’s John Costa and Jupiter’s Ryan Harris, and Wellington shortstop Mitch Morales saw their names scroll across the screen on the final day of the 2011 MLB Draft. Costa was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 31st round (935th overall). Costa, a Florida International commit, is a 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. His best pitch is a sharp-breaking curveball. Costa went 5-1 with a 2.39 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 53 innings. Harris went in the 37th round (1139th overall) to the New York Yankees. Harris, 6-2 and 175 pounds, is committed to Florida. He went 6-2 with a 0.99 ERA during the regular season, averaging more than a strikeout per inning (64 SO in 63.1 IP). He also hit .353 and played first base.
